Green Green Heart City: For the love of gardens, worms & art at The Riverside Festival. The Riverside Festival attracts over 150,000 attendees each year.
This Summer, perceptions of food waste will transform, landfill will be reduced, and plants willget a taste of the high life. The Urban Worm, a pioneering Nottingham business is to donate 10 of its infamous Wheelie Bin Wormeries to local charities and community groups as part of an Arts Council UK funded project ‘Green HeART City’.
10 artists will each be given a Wheelie Bin Wormery and wooden pallet (turned into a vertical garden) to paint in their own style, to the theme of nature. The twist is these artists will be completing the work in public at the Riverside Festival July/August 2015.
This is an Arts Council England funded event, with support from Nottingham City Council.
Wormologist at The Urban Worm, Anna de la Vega says ‘worms can regenerate the earth so we can have food security, growing our own food across the world’.
The more people that get to experience live art from their talented neighbouring residents the better, especially if it means thousands of children and adults learn about recycling foodwaste in the process.
The artists selected include street and graffiti artists Craig ‘Ging’ Humpston, Fatnek, Elroy FTS and Glenk who are used to working in a strict time frame outdoors. Their work is hugely popular amongst Nottingham’s independent creative scene, so this will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase these local treasures to a much wider audience.
Green HeART City aims to be an inclusive, educational, cultural project with ongoing positive ramifications when the selected community groups and charities proudly display their Wheelie Bin Wormeries and matching vertical gardens on their premises for all their service users, staff and visitors to engage with.
Charities The Urban Worm have chosen include CYF, The Secret Kitchen, Super Kitchen, and Nottingham Royal Society for the Blind with a special braille, multisensory bin being created for the latter!
