The Sky’s The Limit At Fleet Lions’ Ninth Beer Festival
FLEET LIONS are promising a ‘heavenly’ time for all at this year’s Fleet Beer Festival on August 8th, held once again at the popular Harlington in Fleet Road. The theme this year is ‘Cloud Nine’, in reference to it being the ninth year the town has played host to the festival, and the Lions are promising to offer ‘nine years of heavenly beers’.
Last year’s festival offered over 40 real ales and ciders, and attracted over 770 punters throughout the course of the day. Fleet Lions aim to build on this success, and are already reporting higher than normal ticket pre-sales on their website. Festival organiser Daniel Franklin said, “Once again it looks as if we’re going to attract ever larger crowds – and to sate the thirst of the predicted masses, we’ve upped the number of beers we’re having to over 44, and we’re getting more ciders than ever before too.”
Drinkers will be entertained by the popular Stomping Nomads band during the lunchtime session, with the bluesy – and appropriately titled – Fleet Boozehound Blues Band performing in the evening. And there’ll be a magician circling amongst the crowds to give a bit of a twist to proceedings. Once again, there’ll be a barbecue serving up burgers and hot dogs.
Punters can be sure that they’re drinking to a good cause, with proceeds from the beerfest being divided between the local Samaritans and Surrey Air Ambulance.
Local companies are being invited to sponsor one of the 44 barrels, with quite a few already having been taken – for only £50, businesses can have their name and company logo in large print across a barrel of beer, and inclusion in the festival tasting notes and advertising mailings – plus a pair of complimentary lunchtime tickets.
There’ll be two sessions – lunchtime, from 11am to 3pm and evening, from 5.30pm to 9.30pm. The Harlington is right in the heart of Fleet town centre, next to the library. Drinkers are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance, at £7, at www.fleetlions.org.uk/beerfest, in order to avoid disappointment. There will be tickets available on the door on a first come first served basis, priced at £8. The cost includes a special commemorative glass designed by local artist Andy Johnson, celebrating the ‘Cloud Nine’ theme.
